Marius Lestrange had an injured wand arm and a very solid, professional alibi with no other evidence pointing to him, so we had to let him go. As can be seen. Even so, connecting themselves to threatening practices and suspicious events seems to be a family habit, at least from what I've noticed. Hopefully at least one of the people we pulled in will give us a leg to stand on.

Edgar Bones, dead? His family, dead? He's one of the best Aurors we have had. Sure, there were, what, six Death Eaters, but we had several DMLE people there. I figured there were going to be consequences for that fiasco with Cygnus Black, but this?
It was his son's birthday party.

I doubt this is anything that isn't going through everyone's head (considering it's already been stated several times), but I refuse to believe Edgar Bones would "murder" someone. Take down in self-defense, certainly, but he is an Auror, an upholder of the law, and that does not constitute the wrongful killing of another human being. The family of Cygnus Black is human too, and I don't begrudge them their grief (though I wouldn't be surprised if they have begrudged others grief), but I only hope this doesn't bode as badly as it very easily could. Bad things tend to happen when those families get upset, and they seem very upset. Has anyone had the chance to talk to Edgar about it, or are we still working solely off what the Prophet had to say?
Speaking of the Prophet, I really don't know why they are so determined to breed distrust. I know it's more fun and sells more papers to bash on the government, but I guess I would think that their is enough going on right now that having a central entity to depend on would be comforting to people. It's only making things worse for the average person who reads the Prophet and assumes that if the Prophet says the Ministry is "just as bad as the Death Eaters," then it must be true. I guess having a scapegoat is helpful to the whole lot, which very well may answer my original question, but man. Just man.
Also, I wonder how long it will be before the uproar and outrage about curfew is set loose over the journals. I'm betting we have flinging accusations of oppression and heading our way.

It's disgusting what the world is coming to -- when babies are being murdered in their sleep for some disillusioned cause. When people's parents are being murdered in cold blood over ridiculous politics and faulty logic -- because they weren't born "right"? The lengths people will go to because they think differently, that's the "filthy" thing. Not how closely related a person is to Muggles or whether or not a person decides to support Muggles despite said individual's otherwise "decent blood."
I don't believe there is something a person can say or do that would warrant the slaughtering of their family. Sins of the father, sins of the child, or perhaps the opinions of the child or the birth of the father -- that doesn't justify the murder of an innocent person.

Jo and I checked the three safehouses we got out of Selwyn before he; we found evidence of Dark Magic in all three places. We weren't able to get far in to do real exploring, but he was definitely telling the truth. The Death Eaters were using them, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are Dark artifacts waiting further inside.
And the public's (or at least the Prophet's) insistence on painting Scrim as some incompetent, power-hungry, unreasonable leader of corruption -- it's pretty frustrating, too, considering he's probably the most law-abiding bloke I know. We are not the enemies. How nice it would be to have the public on our side, but I guess we have to work with what we get, yeah? It's not really about whether they appreciate being protected -- but basically, Scrim, we're behind you, either way. That's the basic point.

Things sure got awkward in the office pretty fast. I got the Selwyn interrogation reports from Scrim today, and it looks like we have some Dark wizard safehouses named that we need to get to investigating. Would you like to join me?

It's just one thing after another, huh? Hope everyone's feeling better -- consider that a good-natured but pointed look in your direction, Pep. None of that bleeding out on us, all right?
Did we ever manage to get a confession out of that Death Eater? It'll be nice to have something to show, since the public is pretty convinced we're incompetent. Maybe we will finally get some information from the actual source, though I guess getting a Death Eater to tell the truth could be somewhat tricky. It's kind of a bummer we can't just use Veritaserum, but those morals and laws and such.
It still kills me a bit that we could have had two of them, though. There was this little one off by himself, limping along, but one of the bigger ones arrived and used one of the wounded bystanders as leverage. Had the Killing Curse all reared and ready. I think the girl was Marlene McKinnon, if I remember her correctly from school. I was trying to put my finger on it, but it's been awhile. She was one of the one living in the Grindylow Gardens flat that got attacked by Death Eaters, so it's looking like that may not be such a coincidence. But at least we have a Death Eater at all, and we don't have any deaths on our hands. That's good news, at least.

Man, I'm not really sure why people are complaining about that Witch Weekly article; 'credible' in their eyes or not, it was talking positively about them.
Huh. I don't know. Maybe my inferior Muggleborn brain can't grasp the intricacies or something. Either way, just to reiterate, I assure you that Pepper's flow chart was quite accurate, and there will be justice, so if Arcturus Black is truly innocent, you have nothing to worry about. Getting worked up and blaming the government because you aren't happy with the way things are going doesn't really fix the problem. We're only trying to keep everyone safe, after all. There's some saying about biting the hand that feeds you. We'd just appreciate it if people would let us do our job, you know? We want people to be safe just as much as you lot want to be safe, and as a result, there are going to be investigations.
In other news, I think it's probably time I make this stack of papers disappear. We're certainly keeping busy, that much is for sure.

Hahaha. Cute. You can go ahead and disregard that last entry. Someone in the DMLE has quite the sense of humour!
Also, I'm glad Bones's fondness for the four-o'clock-am-on-a-Monday-hour has faded in (short) time, though we do what we've got to do, yeah? Much coffee was consumed.

I sent that incident report on Tuesday (about the incident on Monday), which I assume everyone got. It was some crazy timing, really, since I was just getting back from the Ministry, and whatever was going on was going on noisily -- which is why I even knew it was happening.
I wish we could have gotten there in time to stop it, or at least soon enough to come up with some better suspect identifications. For that matter, I wish one of the neighbors would have thought to call us in while it was actually going on. Getting a hold of those girls who live there (or at least DID live there, basing on the condition of the flat now) should be really helpful, though, at least as far as suspect-numbers and all the other fuzzy details go. I'll be looking into getting statement from them this coming week; it looked pretty bad in there, so hopefully they're both all right.
Apparently Agnes O'Hare is still alive, too. All sorts of surprises these days.

Hi, my name is Billiamson, I have pretty hair and a tight arse and a huge crush on Eve Proudfoot. I want to be an Auror because they get all the babes, and face it, our secretaries are the hottest in the whole Ministry.
If you'd like to go out with me, drop off your applications at the DMLE and I'll review them and get back to you. Please include a headshot. You may not get this back.

Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish -- there's been a lot of that flying around lately, it seems. But we've got to live, move on, go forth and deal somehow or another, I guess. It just isn't right that people have to suffer so much, or lose their lives, even, because of a group with their knickers in a twist about who is "worthy" to do this or that, based on uncontrollable and nonsensical factors, completely disregarding the lives of other people. I suppose justice will win out in the end, we'll just keep doing what we can to bring about some sort of peace, but it's just bad what the everything's come to; a world with organized killers running ramped just isn't the way it should be.
...Also, there are a million papers on my desk. Just as a rough estimate. They weren't there yesterday. I suppose I should get to them.
